Mindfulness ✪

To be conscious or aware of something

Thankfully Houston doesn't have a fall, but I still want to wish you a happy first official day of fall. I'm not a fan of pumpkin spice, but I can appreciate a flannel and a hoodie.

Even though I'm not a fall fan, it's still worth reflecting on:

What are your favorite things about fall? AND How can you make sure you make them happen?

Actually put them on the calendar and make sure you don't let the season pass you by. 🍁

Mentionable ✪

Refer to something briefly without going into detail. Important or noteworthy, memorable

Back for another principle of injury rehab that we've heard before, but you may need a friendly reminder about.

Logically we understand that there will be specific indicators that the athlete will have to meet to "graduate" to the next phase of rehabilitating. However, this won't always be a linear process. We hear all the time that healing isn't always linear and, in my opinion, it is one of the most frustrating parts of recovery.

It's very common to feel back in the game one day or for an entire week even, but then feel like you back tracked 10 steps the next day or week. (This is also why the rehabilitation program needs to be adaptable and specific to the individual and their goals!)

I've learned the hard way that you can't necessarily mind over matter your healing and injury. Sometimes your body is running the show and will decide for you where you're truly at, regardless of where you want to be and when you want to be there.

To tie back to last week, there will be ways you can fast track your progress, but that doesn't necessarily mean your return to play will go exactly as planned and according to schedule. Injury rehabilitation is continuous balance of seeing how much you can push and giving your body the time and opportunity to heal. As much as we want this to happen as quickly as possible, linearity isn't always guaranteed.

Motivation ✪

Meant to inspire: being mentally stimulated to do or feel something
