Mindfulness ✪

To be conscious or aware of something

Inspired from the Stoic principle of Acceptance and controlling what you can and accepting what you can't:

"What am I trying to control that's actually outside of my power?"

Mentionable ✪

Refer to something briefly without going into detail. Important or noteworthy, memorable

This month I want to do a mini series on Principles of Injury Rehab that I think we need a friendly reminder about.

First up: healing tissue must not be over stressed AND shouldn't be under stressed! You need a controlled stress to stimulate and optimize collagen matrix formation which is part of the process to heal the injury.

Keep in mind the resiliency of this new tissue will be low and can take up to 8 weeks IF proper amount of restorative stress is applied. However, it can be shorter OR longer if haven't built enough tissue resiliency.

I personally have been on both sides of the spectrum here. I've not introduced any stimulus to induce the repair and resiliency process. I've pushed it too hard, too soon and not allowed enough healing and recovery. And I know most people have been in one or both camps as well, which is why I think this is a really important point we need to remember. When coming back from injury it is a balance between applying enough stimulus to promote the healing process, but to also not push too hard too soon that we create more damage.

Motivation ✪

Meant to inspire: being mentally stimulated to do or feel something

Technically first day of fall isn't until September 22nd this year so with that, so I'm squeezing out the last bit of summer while the weather is still warm: “With all these lovely tokens of September days are here, with summers best of weather and the autumns best of cheer.” – Helen Hunt Jackson
