Goal: grow muscle size
Example of how it may be programed: ~67-85% (of your 1RM for main lifts, 8RM for auxiliary lifts) for 6-12 reps 3-6 sets
Why: higher training volumes are associated with increases in muscular size (aka increasing lean body mass). Bigger muscles can be trained to be more forceful, able to produce more strength, produce more power and are more metabolically demanding (aka helps you burn more calories without having to workout more)
*note RM stands for Rep Max. So if the heaviest you can squat is 100 lbs for 1 rep, your 1RM would be 100 lbs for your squat. 8RM would be the heaviest load you can lift for 8 reps of that specific exercise.
