Mindfulness ✪

To be conscious or aware of something

How are you betting on yourself?

Mentionable ✪

Refer to something briefly without going into detail. Important or noteworthy, memorable

I had a client come up to me and ask my about BMI the other day.

Her weight was going down, her muscle mass was going up, but she was concerned that her BMI went up as well.

If you don't know, BMI is a calculation based off of your height & weight. Sometimes doctors use it as a rough indicator, just like the percentiles they give infants when they're growing.

For years in the fitness industry most of us have been disregarding BMI because it can be very misleading. The classic example is that when Arnold Schwarzzenager was in his prime body building physique his BMI classified him as morbidly obese. However, we clearly know he wasn't morbidly obese despite his BMI calculation.

I definitely don't know my BMI and generally recommend people don't pay attention to their BMI. I even don't think you need to necessarily pay attention to your weight. If you want a metric to track and have a fancy scale or access to InBody scan, then pay attention to your muscle mass (and bone density if it'll give it to you) and focus on making those fat-free mass percentages go up and the fat mass percentages go down.

Motivation ✪

Meant to inspire: being mentally stimulated to do or feel something

"The feeling of progress is one of the best feelings of all. This is true even when progress is small." — James Clear
